Hanford Court Sides with Voters

Kings County, CA (June 25, 2026) — Today, the Court issued an order in the Quo Warranto action in favor of the voters, finding that the four City Council members who were recalled do not have the legal right to hold office and have not since the recall was certified on May 28, 2026.

On April 28, 2026, the City of Avenal held the recall election. On May 28, 2026, Kings County certified the vote with more than 70% of Avenal voters, voting out four members of the City Council. In its tentative ruling the Court confirmed that pursuant to Elections Code 11382,

on May 28, 2026, when the election was certificated, the recalled Councilmembers should have immediately left office.
